Broward Tea Party May, 2012 Newsletter

“Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”

    – Alexis de Tocqueville

Co-founder’s Corner

As our Broward Tea Party prepares for the play that is about to unfold before the November elections, it’s time to announce our casting call. We have many roles to fill, in fact more roles than players. That means that whatever role you wish to fill, it is wide open. The roles include: poll watcher, event coordinator / helper, street rally volunteer, fundraiser, marketing and advertising support, writer, and others that will arise. Everyone is needed more than ever and fortunately we’re already seeing Tea Partiers mobilizing to action.

From around the country Tea Party members are traveling to Wisconsin to support Governor Scott Walker. Already, Tea Party support is credited with ousting 36 year Congressman Dick Luger by a stunning 20 point margin. Here in our backyard a similar upset could be underway as Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz appears to be losing local support. As Hollywood celebrities grab headlines and collect millions for Obama, Tea Party members continue to counter with old fashioned grassroots activism that is spreading. There is a tug-of-war underway. Our conservative, fiscally responsible side has been pulled hard to the left. The good news is that the momentum is now moving in our direction and if enough patriots like you join in, the war can be won. Join us at our monthly meeting where roles are being filled, but hurry, our opponents are not to be underestimated and the outcome is still uncertain.

 May 2nd  Meeting Recap

Co-founder Lee Levin opened the meeting speaking about his recent experience in Washington, D.C. Lee was there taking part in “Grammy’s On The Hill”; professional entertainers were there to lobby for “performance-rights acts” issues. In speaking with various congressmen, Lee determined, “that constituent letters and phone calls placed to Representatives and Senator’s, DO WORK and help to shape policy!”

Lee suggests that BTP members bring legislative issues to share with the group; a “group” letter can then be drafted. Members can then take “action” by emailing or snail-mailing the letter to their respective congressman. The letter could be used as a “points of reference” when calling congressmen, also.

Rallies

Broward Tea Party’s “Send ‘Em Packing” Rally held Saturday, April 14th, on the SW corner of Pines Blvd. and   Palm Ave. was a great success! Approximately 70 to 75 ralliers braved the rain-soaked event. Sign waving Tea Partiers alerted passing motorist to current budget and regulatory issues and to “send Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, CD20 and Pres. Barack Obama packing” in November! Florida CD 20/23 candidates running in opposition to DWS; Karen Harrington, Ozzie deFaria, and Joe Kaufman, all gave campaign speeches to the crowd. All three candidates will face-off in the August 14th Primary to determine who will oppose DWS in the November 6th Election. The main focus of the rally was community awareness, the upcoming August 14th Primary, November 6th National Election, and to show Broward Tea Party as a force in the area political arena.

Corner Rally Project: Friday, April 27th, BTPer’s and concerned citizens occupied the NE corner of Pines Blvd. and Flamingo Rd. in Pembroke Pines from 4pm to 6pm. Signs alerted passing motorists to Constitutional, election, and legislative issues. Once again, the main focus is community awareness of the Tea Party and our values. Corner rallies will be held every 4th Friday of each month from 4pm to 6pm till October. In October, rallies will be held every Friday till the November 6th election. Come and join us!

April 4th  Meeting Recap

Cofounder Charles Robertson:

Presented part 2 of his “Selling the Tea Party” series (please read part 1 and 2 of his series here on the BTP Wordpress blog site under Recent Posts). Our job is to promote our “3 Core Values: Constitutionally Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Free Markets.” To “sell” the Tea Party, we as members should take every opportunity to promote and encourage the participation of family members, “tea party friendly” friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Use your sphere of influence to bring in new members and to encourage others into activism. The Tea Party message is “vital” to the restoration of our Constitutional Republic. * Sponsors and members Jorge and Berta Medina (Title Professionals of South Florida and Pan American Marble & Stone Company) donated several copies of “How to Master the Art of Selling”, by Tom Hopkins, to the BTP library.

Guest Speaker: Marielena Stuart, Candidate U. S. Senate.

Marielena presents herself as the “authentic” conservative candidate. She is a blogger and an activist who says that socialism and communism are the biggest threats to America. Agenda 21, the UN’s sustainable development program, is the international push toward socialism/communism across the globe. Agenda 21 is a Marxist collectivist world movement. It is a public/private partnership that is unconstitutional yet, many federal, state, and local governments are proposing and implementing it. Marielena’s platform includes putting the brakes on Agenda 21, curbing China’s influence on the US economy, and stopping the push for “Sharia Law” in our courts. For more information on Marielena and her campaign, please visit her website http://marielenastuartforussenate2012.com/

Special Treat:

BTP was treated to the premier of Co-founder and resident Grammy award-winning musician, Lee Levin’s new musical group, “The Voters”. Lee and his team of professional musicians and songwriters have been working since the end of 2011 to write and record patriotic and politically-themed music and songs. Three songs were performed: “It’s You” (Blame it on Bush), “Leading from Behind”, and “America’s Coming Back”. The membership was asked to vote for a favorite to be released as a single. An album will be released nationally, at a later date. All three songs were exceptional! The meeting was energized by the music and songs………. Thank you Lee and “The Voters”, we can’t wait for the single and album to be released.

The latter part of the meeting was devoted to a “group planning” session led by Co-founder Charles Robinson. Eight groups were formed to brainstorm ideas on the following subjects: Activism, Making an Impact, Tea Party Group Size, Spreading the Tea Party Message, Innovative Fund-raising, Recruiting Strategy, and What Value comes from the Tea Party Group Experience.

Broward Tea Party March, 2012 Newsletter

“UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not”

                                                                                                                                                              – Dr. Seuss

March 7th  ”One Year Anniversary” Meeting Recap

Co-Founder Charles Robertson:

Our nation’s fiscal policy is heading in the wrong direction. As citizens, we need to wake up and redirect our actions, arming ourselves with knowledge and talking points to share with others and help turn things around!

State of the Broward Tea Party – 1st Anniversary

First meeting, March 2011, 30 people came ; 25 are still actively involved. We now list 117 members on Facebook, 1123 followers on Twitter, 87 members on FreedomWorks, 1046 followers on Word Press, and 261 members on the BTP roster.

In the first year, BTP has hosted Senate and Congressional candidates, radio talk show hosts, local politicians, a political comedian/author, professors of economics and the Constitution, and a Constitutional lawyer/author.

We’ve held to our 3 Core Values: Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government, and Free Markets by taking on the responsibility to “stand for what’s right” and educating ourselves and others on the issues that affect our nation.

Guest Speaker: Karen Harrington, Candidate U. S. Congress, FL CD 20/23.  www.karenforcongress.com

Karen was the guest speaker at BTP’s first meeting March, 2011. “Thank you, Karen, for supporting us!”

Karen leads by example as a business owner, cancer survivor, conservative and friend of the Tea Party. She motivates people to get involved and to participate in the process of “taking our country back”.

Karen’s family all live in South Florida. They own and manage three Rickey’s restaurants in the local area. Karen’s mom keeps a “Bucket List” as follows: Keep God in everything * Obama is gone * Borders closed * Language ” English only” * Constitution strong * Drug free and screening for welfare recipients * No “freebies” to non-citizens . Conservative values are a family affair!

Karen’s opponent, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has never held a job in the private sector. She does not understand how business is affected by the over-regulation, higher taxes from unemployment and healthcare caused by this administration.

Karen’s platform includes: The need to reform the tax rates – a tax rate of 28% with write-offs for healthcare costs , deductions for mortgage, charity, and higher education.  An anti-poverty tax break for low income wage earners would also be included. Government needs to encourage growth in business and to celebrate businesses bringing jobs back home. “This is the most important election of our lifetime – we are at a tipping point!”

Defense: Karen attended the recent AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. 13,000 Christians and Jews attended to support Israel, an ally and democracy of free speech, religion, and respect for women. ” The US and Israel have a shared vision!” The $3 billion per year in aid is returned 75 % back to us in technology and business.

Karen is placing her “heart and head” into defeating Debbie Wasserman Schultz and President Obama; “We need to “FIRE” Debbie and the President!” Karen garnered 40% of the vote in the 2010 election against Wasserman Schultz; “This time I’ll win –  We are powerful and strong with the ‘right’ message.”  The August 14th primary will determine the candidate to run opposite Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

Preparation / Survival Series:  Matt Forsythe - Financial Crisis

In 1970, the government moved the US from the gold standard and made money elastic by printing US Treasury Bills (fiat money with no value that is regulated ” as must use.” The Federal Reserve is controlled by 7 people that manage the money supply of the US. The T-bills are printed then sold on the open market. Article 1 Section 10 of the Constitution states that our monetary system must be based on gold or silver; the system since 1970 is unconstitutional. The “Fed” creates paper money of no intrinsic value, to sell. The government spends all they want by increasing the national debt without raising taxes. This causes inflation and devalues the dollar. This has caused the housing market collapse and 2 world wars. “They create money out of thin air!”

The IMF, International Monetary Fund, for which the Federal Reserve is a member, speculates and creates teaser interest rates which cause inflation and a tax on the American people; we are responsible for 20% of the IMF debt! The IMF and Federal Reserve are the #1 threat to the US, along with the “open checkbook” of the U.S. Congress. *$15 1/2T , our national debt, is held by other countries. They drop our debt…we go down!

Please read, educate, and prepare yourselves!

Each month the BTP newsletter will offer information on websites and materials to help you to educate and prepare for possible events “out of your control”; natural disasters, economic downturn, civil unrest, etc.

Lee Levin

Lee wants to remind all members, that starting with the March 7th Monthly Meeting we will no longer meet at Total Wine and More. **The Wednesday, March 7th Meeting, and all meetings after, will be at: Walter C Young ” Now Playing” Community School Theater, 901 N.W. 129th Ave., Pembroke Pines, Fl., 33028.**

February 1st  Meeting Recap

February’s Guest Speaker:  Gary Gershman, J.D., Ph.D, Associate Professor of Humanities, Nova Southeastern University, spoke from the “progressive” side about our Bill of Rights, Constitution, and the Federalist Papers. The “progressive” premise, he spoke of, believes that “Originalism” is a false ideal and the Constitution is shrouded in “myth”. Examples Professor Gershman contrasted: >Plymouth Rock -Myth – “All came for religious freedom”/Progressive – “Most came for economic reasons”  >United States is a “Melting Pot”  -Myth – “We are an “individual mosaic”/Progressive – “We are a “Salad Bowl” >Statue of Liberty -Myth – “We welcomed all”/ Progressive – “Early immigrants were poor, but not wretched masses” >Bill of Rights -Myth - “Government of limited powers”/Progressive – “Hamiltonian Ideals- Banks and Treasury used to wield power” >Lincoln- Myth – “Freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation” /Progressive – ” The 13th Amendment freed the slaves; Lincoln’s Proclamation only freed the slaves where he was able to” >Healthcare -An “economic activity” with national effect, that has taxing authority under the Commerce Clause (Necessary and Proper Clause) with direct and indirect effects on Commerce.

A very vocal group/speaker discussion then ensued. Professor Gershman handled group dissent to his progressive premises with great tact and patience. Members showed great knowledge of “all things”  constitutional in their responses.  Professor Gershman received rousing applause for willing to debate the “progressive” view against the Tea Party conservative/libertarian beliefs.

Kris Anne Hall Bill of Rights Seminar February 4, 2012: The 5 hour seminar included the history behind each of the 10 amendments. The suffering of early English subjects from 11ooAD to the American Revolution, brought about the specific declarations of the 10 Bill of Rights amendments. The 1100AD ”Charter of Liberties”, the 1215AD ”Magna Carta”, the 1628AD ”Petition of Rights”, the 1688AD “Glorious Revolution”( “Bill of Rights of 1689“), and the 1792AD oppression by the British Crown on American colonists; Our constitutional Bill of Rights were inherited and took over 700 years to write!

The basic premise of the Bill of Rights is: Freedom alone is anarchy; Morality is good, right and proper; Liberty-”protected at all hazards, comes from God”…John Adams. “Freedom plus Morality=Liberty!” The Bill of Rights is a “contract” between the people, as business partners, to create a government.”"The Revolutionary War was undertaken by 9% of the population to overthrow the largest government in the world!”

KrisAnne Hall Presents the Bill of Rights (trailer) :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQpFWHMSLZk&feature=youtu.be

KrisAnne suggests > you should always use original source documents for information. > Watch “Agenda 21 for Dummies”- youtube video. > Watch “Magnificent Heritage”, an old movie about the securing of religious liberty so “all could be free” and the Declaration of Independence.

Committee Reports

Speaker Committee, Lee Levin:

Karen Harrington, 2012 U.S. House of Representatives candidate Fl. CD 20, will join us for Broward Tea Party’s 1st Anniversary Meeting, March 7th, 2012. A “new band” will perform, featuring “politically” themed songs.

Speakers-soon-to-come: Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti and Bob Levy of the libertarian “think tank”, the Cato Institute.

Glenn Beck/MercuryOne Restoring Love Event: http://mercuryone.org/restoring-love   July 26, 27, & 28, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Tickets for the main event, July 28th, are $10; BTP has reserved 50 tickets for interested members; please contact: lee@thebrowardteaparty.com    **more info on the event planning will be forthcoming; stay tuned!

Planning Committee, Kristin Matheny:

“Bring a Friend” Campaign:
-We will advertise this at our next meeting in March…anyone who brings a new member friend to the meeting will receive a BTP t-shirt.
-We will discuss the idea of a prize for “whoever brings the most friends/new members”

Email/Wordpress:
-We currently, send a monthly email/newsletter out to the members on our email list, but we discussed the possibility of increasing emails and updates to twice a month or once weekly.
-We will bring this issue to a vote at our March meeting, but we suspect that people won’t object too much since they can easily delete an unwanted email (and our members seem to support the idea of ample communication!)

Rally:
-We set a date for the rally: April 14 (Saturday), which is “Tax Day Weekend” and coincides naturally with the Tax Day Rally in downtown Ft. Lauderdale and all of the annoyances of April 15th :)
-10:00am-2:00pm in front of DWS’s office (the same location as the July rally, SW corner of Palm Ave./Pines Blvd. )
-Themes: “Taxed to Death” and “Anyone But Debbie” (we can tie these together nicely since DWS has had so many “insightful”- *cough, cough*- things to say about taxes and has an “interesting” voting record on tax-related issues)
-We do need to meet to discuss logistics, invitations to other groups, and speakers for the rally (I will send inquiries to senatorial candidates, congressional candidates, Joyce Kaufmann, Jimmy Cefalo, Rich Minaya, current politicians, etc.)
-Sign-Making Party is a possibility, and the idea of having supplies at the rally site early for those that want to arrive at 9:00am to make a sign/help set up.
-Other groups to reach out to include: Republican Groups, The Libertarian Party, 912 and TP groups throughout Broward and Dade, I Stand with Israel, various campaigns (Allen West, Karen Harrington, Joe Kaufman, Ozzie DeFaria, Adam Hasner, the Senatorial race candidates, etc.)…any other ideas, will be forthcoming.

Fundraising Committee, Berta Medina:

Fundraising dollars will be used to purchase “targeted marketing” materials for the group.

Communications, Judith Welker:

BTP is very active on Facebook-118 members, FreedomConnector-85 members, and Twitter-875 followers, & WordPress-800. To sign-up to receive BTP’s new Word Press Newsletter/Blog via email: www.thebrowardteaparty.wordpress.com

Join and connect with the Broward Tea Party on Twitter.com @TeaPartyBroward ; Facebook.com BrowardTeaParty.

Members should reach out and spread the BTP message by sharing links to our Newsletter, Blogs, and event postings.

**We encourage members to volunteer to work for their candidate(s) of choice; mailings, making phone calls, and walks distributing candidate and voter information. We are a grassroots organization and “boots on the ground” are needed to win back our nation!

Vince Falletta:

Attended the Florida Tea Party Convention in Daytona Beach (November 4, 5, & 6, 2011), where 1700 Tea Party representatives participated from across the state. Vince’s conclusion, “The Tea Party is not dead, but thriving!”

Doug Harrison:

The January 31st Florida GOP Presidential Primary was disappointing; Republicans did not come out to vote! We need to increase our grassroots effort to “GET OUT THE VOTE!” BTP members need to connect with candidates to volunteer in their campaigns; also, share candidate, election, and voting information with friends, neighbors, and associates.

**Dates to Remember:  Tuesday, August 14th, 2012: FLORIDA PRIMARY ELECTION;  Tuesday, November 6th, 2012: GENERAL ELECTION.
